What we've been up to in the community

What we’ve been doing in the community over the past 8 months

Over the past few months, we’ve been delivering a range of community-led activities with residents in Walworth, responding to local demand for safe, inclusive and accessible spaces.

Our work is rooted in building trusted relationships and creating opportunities for people to connect, create and feel supported within their community. Alongside this, we have also been delivering estate-based youth activities with Active Communities Network, supporting young people and engaging with the wider community.

The Beacon Community Collective recently delivered a cross-generational planting and recycling project, bringing together residents of different ages to work on shared outdoor spaces. This created opportunities for connection, learning and a sense of pride in the local environment.

Alongside this, our women’s creative group has become a consistent and valued space. Through weekly sessions including crafts and informal conversation, women have built strong connections and a real sense of belonging - with participants saying: “I look forward to this session so much - it feels so wholesome and joyful" and "I can go weeks without seeing anyone else. This group gives me a reason to get out.”

We have also begun delivering small group GCSE support, providing young people with additional help and a safe space to focus on their studies. We will continue running this support through to their exams this year.

Across all of our work, we are seeing:

• high demand for accessible provision

• consistent engagement from local residents

• the importance of safe, structured spaces

We’ve recently secured funding to continue supporting local young people and the wider community, allowing us to expand our activities in the coming months.

We continue building on this work as we grow our offer and respond to the needs of our community.
